Qualitatively, chemical and biomarker evaluations show that harmful constituents like tobacco-specific nitrosamines are largely undetectable or negligible compared to combustible cigarettes and Swedish snus. Switching to pouches reportedly reduces toxicant exposure similarly to complete cessation. Modern pouches deliver nicotine sufficiently to relieve cravings (at a slower rate than smoking), and current population data suggest low risk of acting as a smoking gateway.
