What was done
An observational cross-sectional study evaluated age-related changes in physical function in 106 healthy, community-ambulant men aged 30 to 80 years. A convenience sample included at least 20 men per decade. Outcomes measured were balance and mobility (timed up and go test, step test, functional and lateral reach), reaction time (limits of stability test), leg muscle strength (spring gauge in kg), and ankle flexibility (goniometry).

Balance, mobility, reaction times, and most strength measures declined significantly by the 60s age bracket (p < 0.01). Ankle flexibility declined significantly by the 70s age bracket (p < 0.01).
