Overall smoking prevalence among surveyed students declined from 25.3% in 1999 to 18.0% in 2002. The "truth" campaign accounted for approximately 22% of this observed decline, showing a significant dose-response association with reduced youth smoking prevalence.
Why it matters
This provides evidence that large-scale mass media counter-marketing campaigns can directly drive and accelerate population-level declines in adolescent tobacco use.
